Objective

  • Teach players to keep their body moving toward the intended target during the recovery of a bobbled baseball.

Equipment

  • Baseballs (3 - 4)
  • Glove

Description

  • Have the players line-up in a single file facing the coach who is approximately 10 to 15 feet away from the line.
  • The coach rolls the ball on the ground towards the players.
  • The player is instructed to purposely fumbled the ball but maintain momentum towards the throwing target.
  • Once the player recovers the baseball continue on to make the throw to the first baseman.

Tips

  • The players should start with a glove on, once comfortable with that then the glove can be taken off just using the bare hand pick-up.
  • This is a drill designed for creativity and enjoyment, so encourage the players to flip the ball through their legs, over the shoulder etc.
