Objective

  • To teach hitters contact points for various pitches.

Equipment

  • Basballs (3 per group)
  • Plate
  • Bat

Description

  • This is a simple drill that can be done anywhere.
  • Hitter places three balls across home plate (which side of the plate the player hits from should determine how balls are placed - since the player (Mark Zamojc) in this drill is a left handed hitter, balls are placed in opposite order compared to a right handed hitter).
  • Coach/partner gives a verbal cue as to which ball to swing at (inside, outside, or middle) then player swings over respective ball.
  • NOTE: players do not actually try and make contact with the ball on the ground. This drill is designed to teach point of contact only.

Tips

  • Make sure hitter is striding and pivoting correctly, rotating hips, and throwing their hands straight to the ball.
