To teach hitters contact points for various pitches.
Equipment
Basballs (3 per group)
Plate
Bat
Description
This is a simple drill that can be done anywhere.
Hitter places three balls across home plate (which side of the plate the player hits from should determine how balls are placed - since the player (Mark Zamojc) in this drill is a left handed hitter, balls are placed in opposite order compared to a right handed hitter).
Coach/partner gives a verbal cue as to which ball to swing at (inside, outside, or middle) then player swings over respective ball.
NOTE: players do not actually try and make contact with the ball on the ground. This drill is designed to teach point of contact only.
Tips
Make sure hitter is striding and pivoting correctly, rotating hips, and throwing their hands straight to the ball.
