Objective

  • To become comfortable with baseballs thrown in the dirt.

Equipment

  • Baseballs
  • Gloves
  • Bases
  • Pitching Machine

Description

  • Set up a pitching machine, or have a person throwing a baseball, approximately 15 to 20 feet away.
  • The baseballs should hit in front of the first baseman’s outstretched glove approximately one to two feet.

Tips

  • The path of the first baseman’s glove should go directly at the baseball. This allows for a greater margin of error.
  • Start by bouncing the baseball in a consistent spot out in front of the player, this will increase the success rate of the drill.
  • Move the ball around, between a long and a short hop in front of the players glove.
