Description
Presented here are three basic types of picks to first base for right-handed pitchers (RHP). They include:
- Jump-pick with a long arm action (usually a set up move) - Video 1
- Jump-pick with a short arm action - Video 2
- Step off and pick - Video 3
Quick footwork should be stressed at all times.
Pitcher should also vary the length of time in the set position as well as his/her looks (without moving the shoulders). For example, picking over to first after a quick pause as opposed to a longer one, or picking over even before coming to the set position.
These types of strategies help to keep the runner close and prevent him/her from advancing.
